This week, DER STANDARD published Simone Petsche-Demmels guest article on the new criminal procedural reform – one of the most significant amendments in the last 15 years!

The main objectives of the reform:

• Shorter investigation procedures
• Strengthening the rights of the accused
• And, of course, the necessary regulation of “mobile phone seizure”

The reform has the potential to make investigation procedures more efficient, especially in complex economic criminal cases – although the legislator has left some acceleration options “untouched.” Now, we can only hope that the reforms will be effective in practice!
